Colposcopy Sandton by Dr. Howard P. Manyonga
SWIFT Care Colposcopy Programme
Cervical cancer is a leading cause of cancer death among Southern African women. To reduce mortality rates, effective screening and early detection are urgently needed. We are addressing this need through an innovative office colposcopy. Our single visit approach (SVA) is suitable for women presenting with abnormal cytology, it combines colposcopy with loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) or thermal ablation performed in a procedure room in or a gynae practice.
What is colposcopy really?
Colposcopy is a specialised office procedure conducted by a skilled gyanecologist to meticulously examine your cervix, the neck of the womb; for any signs of pre-cancerous abnormalities. This procedure is a crucial component of cervical cancer screening, allowing for the early detection and intervention of potentially harmful changes in cervical cells.
During a colposcopy, the gynaecologist utilises a colposcope, a magnifying instrument with a bright light, to obtain a detailed view of the cervix. By closely examining the cervical tissue, the gynae can identify any areas of concern, such as abnormal cell growth or lesions, that may indicate the presence of pre-cancerous or cancerous cells.
