The one step-by-step guide that will make you calm in your expectations
Step 1: Preparing For the Procedure
We understand that undergoing any medical procedure can be accompanied by feelings of apprehension or uncertainty, which is why our team is committed to providing you with comprehensive support and guidance every step of the way.
Step 2: Positioning and Examination
Once you are settled, you will be asked to recline on the examination table, and we will ensure your comfort by providing supportive padding and adjusting the table to your preferred position.
We use a specialized instrument called a colposcope. This instrument combines a bright light and magnifying lenses, allowing for a detailed and precise examination of the cervix.
Step 3: Biopsy (If Necessary)
Should any suspicious areas be identified during the examination, the healthcare professional may perform a curative procedure of which there are two methods, electro-surgical excision and thermal ablation. The ablation procedure may be preceded by a biopsy of the abnormal area. The excisional method provides tissue for further examination.
Step 4: Post-Procedural Care
- Rest and Recovery: After the colposcopy avoid strenuous activities for the remainder of the day to minimize discomfort and promote healing.
- Manage Discomfort: You may experience mild cramping or spotting following the procedure. Manage with simple analgesia and follow instructions.
- Follow-Up Appointment: Your healthcare provider will schedule a follow-up appointment to discuss the results of the colposcopy and any further steps or treatments that may be necessary.
